WELLAND'S MERRITTVILLE FIRE BRIGADE
Welland's Merrittville Fire Brigade, was incorporated as a non-profit,
Charitable corporation, is s a Fire Historical Society located in the
City of Welland. The organization is dedicated to preserving fire history, restoration of fire equipment and the establishment of a future fire museum in the Historic and Classic Central Firehall built in 1920.
Apparatus in the collection include an 1876 Handpumper, hose reel, a 1946 American LaFrance Quad Pumper, a 1950 Bickle Seagrave 85 foot Aerial, a 1957 American LaFrance Quad Pumper along with many other artifacts. As a Bicentennial Project the members completely restored the 1876 Handpumper, Welland's first fire engine, it has appeared in many local events and parades.
Activities of this group include Parades, Musters, Car Shows, Displays, Slide shows and photograph presentations as well as the recording of Fire History and fire related events within our district.
Our aim is the preservation of the colorful and glorious beginnings of the Fire services in the Welland area as well as the present and future so that future generations will not forget our firefighters or their Heritage. Thus giving value and meaning to all who have served our city and surrounding communities and put their lives on the line to keep us safe.
Anyone interested in becoming a member or sharing idea's, working on restoration and other projects or promoting fire service and the city of Welland are always welcome and may contact the following.
