By the fall of 1957, a new home for the Welland climate station was found at the newly built Westside firehall on Prince Charles Drive, near the banks of the Welland River. (See photo below) Official observations began in October 1957 and have been part of the daily ritual for Westside Firehall staff ever since. In July 1990, the Firefighters were presented with a plaque from Environment Canada for their 30 years of continuous service in keeping weather records for Welland (1957 - 1987). The year 2007 has marked 50 years of continuous climate observing at the Westside firehall and 135 years of climate data for Welland.
Weather Observations continue to be recorded twice daily and are now submitted online via the internet.
