Time to Change your Clocks, and Your Smoke Alarm Batteries. When do we change our clocks?
Beginning in 2007, most of North America begins Daylight Saving Time at 2:00 a.m. on the second Sunday in March and reverts to standard time on the first Sunday in November. For Welland this will be March 11, 2007 at 2am. Most of us change our clocks the night before we go to sleep, so we don’t forget.
.
Please take the time to change your batteries and test each smoke detector at the same time that you change your clocks. You can purchase artificial smoke cans or you can use a candle, and allow the extinguished smoke to activate the alarm. Don’t waste that old battery; there will still be enough life inside to run a remote control or children’s toy.
.
If you can’t decide on whether the detector is activating properly, if the location of your smoke detector gives you some concern, or if there are any questions around other safety concerns in your home (fire escapes, over occupancy, exit drills in the home, fire safety plans), don’t hesitate to contact your local Fire Prevention Bureau to make arrangements to have an inspector come to your home free of charge.

If you are a Welland resident, you may contact the Welland Fire and Emergency Services, Fire Prevention Bureau at 905-735-9922 extensions #224 or #229. |
