The Welland Professional Fire Fighters Association

Since the early 1900's the Welland Professional Fire Fighter Assocation has been serving the citizens of Welland. The firefighters have held several names or titles over the years, but has come to be known as the Welland Professional Firefighters Association Iaff Local #481.

Currently we have 51 members spread between, 4 suppresion platoons, training, and prevention/inspection divisions.

The city of Welland staffs 2 pumpers, a 75' aerial, and a rescue truck. The department responded to aproximately 2600 calls in the year 2005. Those responses included Various structural fires, vehicle and micellaneous fires, Automobile fires, medical emergencies, hazardous materials spills or exposures, motor vehicle accidents, carbon monoxide invertigations, and various rescues.

The professional firefighters may be dispatched to any environment that is or may become dangerous to life, health, or property.

During the year 2005, The Welland Fire Department had become the Welland Fire and Emergency Services. This change is intended to better reflect the responsiblities and services the Welland Professional Firefighters provide. The duties and responsiblities of emergency response has grown over time to meet demands placed upon the emergency workers we call firefighters.
